I tried to sign my son up for soccer this spring, only to find out he’s still about 6 months too young. So, I didn’t even think about signing him up for baseball until I talked to the mother of one of his preschool classmates, who said they could play T-ball at 4 years old. We had missed the deadline to sign up for the team, but I contacted the league and the coach and they were more than happy to let D join the team!
Since we were late joining, he missed the first couple of practices and his first taste of the sport was an actual game. Well, as much as a game as it is with a bunch of 4- and 5-year-olds! There is a lot of silliness and playing in the dirt, and the coaches are constantly trying to regain the attention of the kids. But that’s to be expected. The point is to get them out there catching and throwing, hitting the ball, and running the bases. We’ve had two more practices since the first game and so far, he’s really enjoying it!
